I will never ever EVER buy an Wspace or another Renault again. I bought this car from a reputable dealer with a years warranty. I bought the car when it was 6yrs old with 57k miles on the clock. When phoning the previous owner to find out it's history i was very shocked to what i was listening to. The car does not have its orig engine in it and also has a reconditioned gearbox in it. For a car with only 57k it doesn't say much for Renault! In the 2yrs i have owned it the problems are as follows: LCD Display. Engine management box(£879) Drive shaft. Engine mounts. 5th gear cog. Petrol cap cover. Front springs and a couple of minor things. This was not covered by warranty as they said it was wear and tear and not immediate defect. So, here i am stuck with a car that is costing me a fortune because i could not be bothered arguing with SCOTSURE again! Does anyone want to buy a 2.0ltr RTX???X plate.:-(
Had this car for 3 years and love it. We are a family of just 2x adults, 1x child & a dog, but we have loads of room, its a great drive, its been reliable, comfortable and has plenty of gadgets. We upgraded from a Scenic after 4 years of great driving and I was a little unsure about the size of the Espace - I changed my mind quickly and fell in love with it! It is expensive to get repaired at a dealer's but go to a local garage - they get Renault parts from the dealer anyway, at about 2/3 of the price! Had to have the clutch slave cylinder replaced (local garage charged £340 - dealer wanted £800!) - shop around. Apart from that, we have only had to pay out for new tyres, oil and servicing. We went to France in August and it got us there comfortably, we got all our camping stuff in it easily and clocked up over 2,000 miles without any problems! I would recommend Renault, however, I do know people who have had one and had nothing but trouble! All I can say is make sure you have full service history, ensure any known problems are checked out before buying, go to a reputable dealer to buy it and get a warranty. I am getting a company car soon and am really finding it difficult to find something that is large enough for us (as we've been spoilt for space), which is robust but still looks good and is not going to cost the earth in company car tax!
Bought 2000 W reg (36000 miles) in 04 for £9000 from renault london west with a 1 year warranty.Whilst warranty was running it was fine. The car is a comfortable and smooth drive(except for passengers at the very back).Seats are very heavy and fiddly to take out and the clutch has left me with one calf muscle like Arnie.Reliability is suspect,i had to replace a slave cylinder(£1200),faulty central locking meant one door would'nt lock and you cannot lock it with the key, doors stick, bulbs in dash gone, fabric tears at seams on drivers and passenger seats, corroded wiring for rear lights, door tensioner snapped off, replaced rear engine mount, could'nt always select first gear, discs, pads and exhaust replaced as would expect on year but at a cost of over £1000, rear interior light fell out and needed replacing.Bits of cheap plastic trim continuosly falling off.I cannot remember all the work its had.Renault parts are not cheap. My small daughter stepped on stick that adjusts side mirrors and it broke off and fell inside door(cost to replace was £300!!)Glass for side mirrors is £70 a go so look on ebay for £10 cheap stick ons.AA parts and labour warranty and recovery service was used often..Been advised to get rid of it before engine and gearbox go and anything else!Avoid renaults and their electrics.I've just p/exed it(£1400) for an 05 sedona with a 3 year warranty(£7500).
I don't quite think this is the type we have but it is a T reg 2.0 litre and it is Automatic transmision. We got this car just after losing our V reg Renault Scenic at 94,000 miles when the cambelt went. We needed a car fast and found this on ebay. And i think the views that its not a very good car is rubbish! theres only 4 of us in the family and we didn't really need a 7 seater. But because we travel round the country alot with long drives it helps to have lots of room and the seats in the back are so comfy. the front of the car is nicely set out and the dash all packed away is great. it also has two zone heating which is great! This is so much better than the scenic and i recomend it to anyone thinking of buying a MPV. We also have had a zafira and they just feel so uncomfortable and cheap. GET AN ESPACE! We are now saving up for one of the new ones.
