This car maybe not be quite as description but I have chosen the closest match. It is a 2.1TD family. It is a 1995 reg and I bought it when it was just over 1yr old. It is, without doubt, the best and most versatile car I have owned, whether carrying 7 people on a day out, moving kids to and from university or just ferrying stuff to the tip. I did have the injector pump re-built and a new steering rack but it now has 255,000 miles on the clock. It does 46mpg and still runs beautifulyl. I expect to see 300,000 miles.

    My car

I read some of the other reviews and I'm pleased it's not just me who had the "Friday afternoon" car! I LOVE my car but can no longer afford to run it. '98 R plate. Purchased 6 years ago £13k with 60k on the clock- luckily took out extended warranty.

Now at 140k so fair mileage but at a MASSIVE cost. Total repairs to date £14k! Yep, you read it correctly.....£14k (£10k covered by warranty thankfully).

Cam belt went, both heater matrix have been replaced twice, ECU replaced, radiator replaced, LCD dash computer replaced, turbo replaced twice, clutch replaced and the list goes on. Servicing all done when due so further costs there.

Practicality is brilliant but cost is prohibitive on parts and seemingly built to make repairs more time consuming. Will NEVER buy another Renault.

    My car

Car is great to drive, is practical and for a large vehicle fast and handles well. Downside is spends much of its time in for repairs and in 4 years has had New heating system electrical and fans, new radiator, new water pump, new hydrolic system twice, new clutch, shocks, rear springs.Drive shafts, brakes, discs all replaced as one would expect. Car has done 180,000 and engine is great. My gripe is the cost of parts and labour these are beyond belief and the vehicle has either been purposely designed so that maximum labour time is required to repair or it has been so badly designed that no thought has been given to replacing parts. Its interesting to note that Haynes have not produced a DIY manual for this vehicle.....too involved? Cheap and nasty plastic speaker covers for the doors..£20.00 each. Plastic cover for front tow eye..£20.00 each. There is no way these and other part prices can be justified. I could buy a quality Addis washing up bowl for less than a fiver and thats made of real plastic? Have enjoyed driving it when its on the road but would never buy another Renault as long as I live and will change this for a Honda FR-V soon as I can. Had same problems with Peugeot years ago and should have learnt then to steer clear of French made vehicles.
