USED Rover 75 Saloon (99 - 05)

My car

I have had this car for over a year now, and have found it to be the best car i've owned. Problems can usually be dealt with via the very good owners club, who tell you what can and does go wrong and how to prevent problems arising. The ride is a bit harder than I thought, but this could just be the state of our roads, but it is extremely quiet especially for a diesel ( one of BMW's best). The interior is great to look at and be in with lots of wood and leather and all the toys you could want, including a chinese aftermarket sat nav/freeview tv/dvd package. I have found it very cheap to run (42mpg) for a diesel auto. I have alson fitted a tuning box that gives the car alot more go but still gives good economy. A very well built and finished car. Shame they are no longer made as I couldn't think of what is going to eventually replace it.

My car

I have owned this car for 2 years, and I absolutely love it. However all cars do have faults and I have noticed a few. First of all the Clutch master cylinder is in a stupid location, not under the bonnet as you would expect, but above and behind the clutch pedal in the drivers footwell. I was driving home from work and suddenly the car refused to go in to any gear, I eventually managed to crash in to 2nd gear and find a lay by, I contacted the RAC and after about 20 minutes they arrived.The mechanic advised me to replace the master cylinder as it would only get worse. I contacted the garage where a new clutch and slave + master cylinder were fitted only 6 months before at a cost of £1100, fortunately this was done just before I bought the car. I was advised to check the level of fluid in the master cylinder reservoir, which I did and I topped it up, and ever since I have had no problems apart from routinely topping up once more. Apart from this I have replaced all of the brake pipes as the car failed the MOT (common fault as pipes are very exposed to the elements).Also the drivers side front coil spring broke at 30 mph and took out the front tyre. These are known faults, but I have to say that all in all the car is magnificent to drive, and with it's BMW diesel engine it is reliable and economical, not to mention better made than any BMW that I have been in. It has electric seats,heated seats, 6CD changer,full leather and the most beautifully designed interior of any car.

My car

I have owned this car from new, & bought it as the 1st privately owned 2.5 V6 in Austria. In the first 3 years, l had practically everything replaced FOC, with a good contact directly with Rover UK. As an original BMW purchase this car was made to last, unfortunately, the coolant tank, the door locks & the rear axle had to be replaced due to this car being a monday's car, (in the UK you call it a friday's car). Anyway, the first 3 years were not a happy time for me or the car, but the last 6 years have been most impressive, this is by far the best car l have ever driven, its comfortable, its NOW reliable, it still gives me excellent mileage, and still reguarly drives back & forth between Somerset(GB) and Vienna, Austria, with no problems whatsoever. Last week it went through its TUV (MOT in the UK) without the slightest problem. There is not one piece of rust on this car, and from underneath, the car is still in pristine condition as is the total bodywork.

But now the painful part comes, as l need to sell this car, so who knows what l might have next, unfortunately, l won't be another Rover as l can't buy them new in Austria?

My car

I have just bought the Rover having run a 130 Ghia Mondeo Estate for three years. Every car I tested fell far short of the Mondeo and I include Mercs, BMWs and Saabs. Then I drove a 75 and that was it. Three years old, mint condition, 32K miles and half the price of an equivelent Mercedes.

The Rover is the ultimate in luxury and refinement, even in manual form, and over the last 1500 miles has averaged 49.5 MPG. and this is without really trying.

The only question that ownership of a 75 raises is how on earth did MG Rover go under?????????????
