This was my first brand new car and was quite a change from a Honda Civic.
Sadly, when it arrived the alarm kept going off and the key was unreliable, which meant that the alarm would go off when I had to open the doors manually.
The ride however is brilliant and the roof retraction is still fascinating to watch. I have only driven 22,000 miles in nearly three years and it has only needed one service!
The key problem does still happen even though it was replaced and the driver window will not close unless you open the door - it goes up and then retracts halfway down, which is annoying in the rain. It now is wise to me and pulling the same stunt when the window is open too!
The air con has never worked properly. I was told this was not a waarnty issue as there is a hole in it and as I purchased the car in October I never realised there was a problem until it was too late.
Also it is a pity the seat warmer is not fitted as standard - if you have leather seats you need this facility.
Sadly, therefore, I am not looking to buying another Saab....the Honda and - dare I say it -the Rover before that did not have these issues.
I believe that the faults mentioned above are not unusual.
Since my review dated 26/03/2007 my opinion has changed. I've now had this car for a year and covered 12000 miles and problems have started. The car rattles & feels as if it is falling apart. The air vents have popped out of the dash and there is a constant rattle from under the car which the dealership cannot resolve. I have had to have the leather replaced on the drivers seat, it jumps out of 2nd gear and I have wind noise from the roof.
Saab 9-3 1.8t Vector w/ Hirsch Performance Upgrade JUST A LITTLE BIT POSH I had my eye on this car for a while, after a couple of indecisive months and several thousand pounds spent on my previous car (Range Rover Vogue- need you ask anymore?)I finally took the plunge and ordered this car. This car has so many plus points, aside from the driving experience and quality of trim, whilst maybe not up to german standards in some peoples eyes, in mine it is just about right. What amazes me is that unlike BMW/MERCEDES who seem to think that people over 6' dont buy convertibles SAAB realises that we do, at 6'4 I can honestly say I have never driven a car (either convertible or not) with such an awesome driving position and my head isnt scraping the roof. The HIRSCH performance upgrade makes a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge difference and makes you want to put your foot down at every available opportunity. The only problem with this car is that its far too tempting to put the roof down all the time, even when its -1c. So as they say "If you can, you should."
Since my Review dated 24/11/2006, I am still awaiting a satisfactory resolve to the SAT NAV system and am still awaiting full return of costs incurred after breakdown in August, this, even though I have been promised on 5 seperate occasions by SAAB Customer Care UK.

Amazing car, once driven, never forgotton, forget all the pretenders like BMW Z4 and Mercedes SLK, they will never have the passion of a Porsche
I love this car! Handling is great, its fun to drive and even reasonably practical!
