I recently sold my Skoda and their were tears. It's not the most attractive of cars, but it is a great workhorse and very reliable.
There is very little between this and a Golf for interior finish, but there is in price - it's highly recommended.
I bought my car new in September 2004, and it is the best vehicle I have ever owned. Try as I might I cannot find fault with either the car or the service, and have experienced no problems whatsoever. The fuel consumption is well beyond my expectations, and the car is yet to return less than 50 mpg under any driving conditions. Indeed, on a recent trip to Birmingham from Scotland the mileage was 63 mpg! A whole lot of car, comfort and economy for a very reasonable price. Let the badge-conscious stick to their overpriced fuel guzzlers - when the time comes there will be another another new Octavia, (or maybe Superb), in my garage!
This is my second Octavia, having upgraded from a 2.0 Ambiente. I looked at a vRS but decided on the 4x4 as it had a better specification - I liked the standard ESP and side airbags, and it is also cheaper to buy used.
I have had this car now for nearly three years and have been very impressed - it drives very well and grip is fantastic. In fact, it handled crossing a water-logged field at a country park with no problems at all.
This car is a very practical family hatch, with the added safety of 4WD and ESP, and has the same engine and mechanicals as an Audi Quattro for half the price - what more can you ask for?
I have now owned this Octavia VRSfor three years, and in that time, I have only had one minor problem which was fixed in double-quick time by Skoda.
This is the best car Ihave ever owned and driven - the power and speed are second to none, and it beats any Golf GTis and BMWs on speed and price.
It only cost £15,000 new, and it can be used as a normal family run-around if need be. Never mind the badge - get yourself one!

I've had 6 VWs now including this one and it is a mixed bag. In no particular order the economy is poor despite the FSI badging and in town never…
Why is there so much whining about the rear sets? It's small - it's called a "mini" (hint). It didn't get any smaller after you bought it, so deal…
