It's a fun, totally different car and I loved it for the first six months until everything went wrong with it and it felt like it was falling apart!
My roadster coupe is three years old and has had three exhausts. The coupe glass panels have been replaced twice, all the seals have been replaced due to immense leaking and the electric soft top has also been replaced - not really what you expect from a year-old car. Not to mention all the other more minor replacements.
I also received the most appalling non-existant service from both Smart and Mercedes. To date there are still problems with my car that Smart cannot resolve - they don't seem to know how to fix it which is quite worrying!
Please please consider your car choice carefully. I have got rid of it now and have an Audi TT - why did I ever buy a Smart in the first place?
Well i have to say driving my new Smart Roadster was more pleasurable than i thought. I work in the motor trade and have driven some extremely fast cars, but i have to say my Smart Roadster for some reason gives you such a buzz from what i would call a lawn mower engine and corners like it is on rails, very reassuring car to drive for those speed demons!!!!!
I have only been an owner for 2 weeks so i can not really comment on running costs (hence lower review score)!!! Although fuel ecomony seems to be great compared with cars i have driven previously, returning at least 48MPG.
Although a little plasticky around the edges, everything seems to be easily accessable. Due to its strong structure, the Smart Roadster feels quite luxurious and the cabin space makes it feel a bigger car than it is!
If you require a very unpractical car but live local or commute, i would strongly recommend a Smart Roadster, also to add to the fun you can make it into a convertible during the summer! Mind you don't rely on UK weather!!!!
Conclusion - 1) Small Engine, great performance. 2) Amazing fuel ecomomy. 3)Flexible for all weather conditions, especially in the summer when the roof comes off 4) Great Handling. 5) Gordon Brown can not sting you for road tax, costing a reasonable £115 per year. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED,SAVE YOUR PENNIES AND BUY ONE!
Having originally bought a roadster light as a second car ,I then bought the brabus.Fantastic looking car,I m 6' 3" and fit no problem once inside (getting in and out is awarkward) I put about 600 motorway miles on it every week and its great fun.Fuel is aroung 45mpg although 52 53 is possible. The brabus seems to be a little harder on the road due to its lower profile tyres, also the soft top cause a lot of road noise which can become tiring.Had a few minor quality niggles but nothing major.Servicing is expensive and every 7500 miles.Mine has the "flappy F1 style paddles" look good but pointless have also found that driving in full auto mode the car often changes down when it could stayin a higher gear just join the motorway and select manual mode =better fuel economy.Gets lots of looks,I would highly recommend this car ,If you can live with getting in and out of it ,you will love it
I am a fan of the Smart Range. Especially the Roadster. But you can't help feeling that the car really is a bargain because it isn't that good.
The gearbox is slow to react and the steering can be a bit slow. The fuel economy is good for a cheap roadster and the cabin quality is good, but some of the materials they have used make the cabin feel a bit too cheap.
It's a good car, but not one that you would want to live with and drive every day. Sort of a special occasion car. Recommended to young adults.
Order a brochure, find your nearest dealer or book a test drive
Amazing car, once driven, never forgotton, forget all the pretenders like BMW Z4 and Mercedes SLK, they will never have the passion of a Porsche
I love this car! Handling is great, its fun to drive and even reasonably practical!
