I find this car to be an outstanding performer. For a 1.4i, it's quite nippy! It has excellent ride and cabin space!

I find the 1.7 DTi engine to be under powered. If you want economy and get one cheap, it's an OK buy, but don't expect an interesting drive.

The seats are uncomfortable (in all the models I have driven). I wouldn't pay dealer prices as I don't believe the car is worth it - get a big discount. The 2.0 DTi engine is a lot better and not a lot less economical.

The electrical problems vary considerably from the mildly distracting to the downright get under your skin and throw a hammer through it.

During heavy rain on a long journey, having the rear wiper on for long periods means not being able to turn it off when the rain has stopped without pulling in and switching engine off. And the alarm beeps when you turn the engine off and then starts to go off at all hours even when not armed, for example when driving!

It has good fuel economy but its poor acceleration can leave you as a sitting duck in busy traffic situations.

Maybe this is down to the age of the car (late V reg) and newer engines are more refined, but certainly the petrol version is easier to drive if maybe a little thirsty?

    My car

Overall, it's a nice family car, which is a little sporty and looks good. However, I find the gear ratios could do with changing, the engine revs are quite high for the speed in each gear, and very low torque at lower revs. The CD multichanger is positioned inside the glovebox, which makes the glovebox almost unusable. Overall running costs are OK, however Vauxhall recommend changing the cambelt every 40,000 miles! Good runner, reliable, but overall not very exciting, and I am averaging 30 miles per gallon. Not the 36 Vauxhall claims...
