IT's MINT!!!
I submitted an earlier review after purchasing the car - since then I have completed 40,000 trouble free miles and rate it the most reliable value for money car I have ever owned.
Services are required at 20k intervals and are reasonably priced altho I did find some variation according to Vauxhall dealerships. Aside from two services I have just replaced the front disc pads (discs still ok) and its had a complete set of new tyres due to my high annual mileage.
Performace wise - it's to be commended, it's not the fastest Turbo diesel but mpg of around 47 is not to be sniffed at and you need to watch the top speed. Due to low engine noise I was stopped by my local police force doing 92mph on a motorway and I really had no idea ! Expensive mistake but given the very low running costs I would recommend this car to anyone. We also own a Ford Focus and given the choice I would chose the Astra over that anytime !
This car is a 2003 model fitted with a spoiler as standard When we got the car, it had some teething problems, which vauxhall were great at sorting out.
We use the car on short runs and about town and also a few long runs. We are getting around 66 miles per gallon, which is fantastic and on a few runs to England we got an overall mileage of 87 miles per gallon and that was at normal driving speeds
It's also good you can go for 20,000 miles between services
I'd recommend this car to anyone who likes value for money.
I am a first-time owner of a Diesel.
It has shown itself to be nearly as verstaile especially in mid-range performance as the petrol 1.6 Astra I owned previously.
The finish throughout is good although the equipment levels do not meet some of it's competitors.
Overall, it's a very good buy with attendant savings.
