Bought this car June 02 car in June 05 with 55K on the clock. I have put another 70K on the clock. This is the most reliable car I have ever owned. I have put 2 sets of front tyres on it and a set of brake pads. I replaced the aircon condenser due to it being holed by a stone. And thats it, no other problems. The engine does sound unrefined, it sort of whirrs all the time, but you get used to it. The road tax when I bought it was £85 per year, it is now £35 per year. Yes the interior is drab but it wears well. The recommended oil change is every 20K but I do it every 12k and use good quality oil, so it does not use oil between oil changes. I am probably going to keep this car for another couple of years but wiil probably get fed up looking at it before it lets me down. PS it is still on the original exhaust system which still looks sound.
I have many many cars over the years, first of which being a 2000 (X) 1.4 16V LS Vauxhall Astra Hatchback. The most reliable car I have ever owned. A very practical and inexpensive car, the only criticism I had was the 1.4 is a fairly stangled engine. 3 cars later and I now have a Vauxhall Astra again, this time a 1999 (V)1.6 16V LS Hatchback. This car I picked up for a fantastic price, and although it has done 117,000 miles, the car still feels tight as a drum, delivering responsive controls and a sharp drive. Comfortable and easy to drive, the ample 1.6 16V engine returns reasonable fuel consumption in the region of 35-30mpg for normal town driving. I have had no major problems with this car and will keep it until I consider another car, which will probably be another humble Astra. The only small things I have had with the Astra are minor electrical faults, which are common, for instance warning lights on the dash, whcih in most cases are relatively inexpensive to correct. I have had less problems with 2 Astra's, with a combined age of over 17 years, and over 175,000 miles than my NEW ford focus had in just a few months. I prefer to drive my 1999 Astra with 117,000 miles on the clock and 5 owners than my 2007 Ford Focus Zetec Climate which I bought brand new. Now thats saying something! Hats off Vauxhall
I have had my car for nearly 3 years and I bought it used.I really like the drive of the car and it is very economical on petrol.
The cabin is basic and there is no storage but to be honest what do you really need?
The only fault I have had is an oil leak.I reported it to my local Vauxhall dealer and they sorted it out straight away.
On the whole this car is a nice drive and very reliable.
2.0 16v Turbo GSI Iv owned this car for 6 months now. Although it can be a struggle putting the power to the ground it is extreamily quick. I havent as yet had any problems with it, although the running cost are high, E.g, petrol, tax and insurance. The ride is quite smooth and handles like a dream. Although I would advise against hard exeleration in corners. It comes standard with ABS, Power Steering, cruise control and traction control with all round air bags. If some one was looking to buy this car it is a must.
