Unispiring but very practical. 1.6 engine pathetic. Like the tinted rear windows
I bought my 04-reg Meriva at 12 months old for half its original price, and with 20,000 miles on the clock.
I really cannot fault it, although it is not particularly economical - 35mpg whatever the conditions.
As another reviewer discovered, the exhaust recirculation valve had to be replaced under warranty at about 30,000 miles, and again at 60,000 miles for £160.
Also, again as another reviewer found, the gear selection system had to be replaced at about 50,000 miles (£100).
On the other hand, the front brake pads did 50,000 miles, and rears are still going strong.
I am thinking of replacing it soon, but don't know what with, other than another one.
We chopped out V reg Peugot 206 GLX in part ex for something bigger to carry our baby sons accessories ie pram/seat,toys etc.We were looking for something with similar spec (air con + sunroof)with more space, ended up with a 04 Meriva 1.6 energy 8v. Two words, love it! Plenty of legroom (I'm 6'4" missus is 5'2") front and back, variable position seats, large cargo area. Took a while to get used to seeing past the front pillars but fine now. In 3 years apart from the driveshaft gaiter clips coming off theres been no problem at all. I found the emissions were really bad so the road tax is quite high (and this is how they come from the factory! so be warned.) Ive been looking at going up to a Zafira recently but they dont get a good review so we'll definately consider a newer Meriva. I'd advise anyone try it, see what you think. You wont look back.
I have the car for nearly 3 years and has done me proud, except haveing a 1.4 engien and given a hill the two do not like each other. As i have a disabled wife we have had the car on a 3 year contract which is due to be renewed it's very usefull for getting a wheelchair in & out of the boot with the parcel shelf in situ & not haveing to move the seats!. I found that the multi position of the rear seats very usefull & plenty of usefull accessories like the twin sunroofs, air con & cruise control i would consider haveing another one or may try something else.
