Having moved up from a Renault Clio, I must say that this is really an excellent car.
The engine is quick and responsive. The handling is great and the seating postion is excellent. There's loads of room in the back for two children, too.
I bought mine from Patricks of Durham - it's probably the best garage I have dealt with in 20 years.
I'm so impressed with the build quality that I bought a new 1.9-litre diesel Zafira Active. Let's see how they compare.
I test drove the Meriva against a Fiat Idea. Overall, the Meriva is far superior to the Idea in most areas.
The handling is very smooth, the cabin plastics and quality is better and the versatility is great. The standard features and purchase price are higher than the Idea's. However, in my view, this is warranted the Meriva has my name on it, although a few more standard features (privacy glass, alloy wheels, etc) wouldn't go amiss.
My car comes via Motability and was selected because of high seating position and the ease of getting in and out.
The only gripe I've got is the lack of power on hills which causes some problems but other than that it's a well made and a joy to drive.
The cabin provides pleanty of room for the family even with the front seats fully back and although it did develop a fault with the power steering after just 36 miles and again at 156 miles the service recieved by Vauxhall was second to none.
I'd recommend the Meriva to anyone looking for a small compact mpv.
We have owned this little gem from new and are absolutely delighted with it! It's a doddle and a joy to drive, so easy to get in and out of due to the high seats (ideal for anybody with a mobility problem). Extremely practical and spacious, and the visibility does not seem to be an issue. Anyway, if you are considering buying a new car get a (Meriva) LIFE! We did and we love it.
