USED Vauxhall Omega Estate (94 - 03)

My car

ive owned this car for about 5 months now. i purchased the vehicle off a dear friend of mine. it originally came in as a part ex at my brothers car showroom. my dear friend purchased the car as a run about and the day he bought it, the head gasket decided to go. he kept it for a while and i had just sold my Rover 825 sterling coupe to make way for a good value bargain such as a bmw 5 series estate or a mercedes e class. but i saw this car and realise what features it had as standard on this spec, compared to an equivalently priced merc or bmw the vauxhall won hands down. the car i believe was around £26-£27,000 when new. i bought it for £500, 1997 P with 84000 on the clock. the car is supremely smooth, comfortable, suprisingly fast for a 2 tonne car with only 170bhp. unfortunately the auto transmission has only got about 5 months left and the car will either be sold for spares or will be scrapped. because why would i spend a fortune on a gearbox for a car only worth £500. its a shame to throw away a car so good. oh and dont underestimate these things, ive been able to get 152mph out of mine at 4am on the m5. not bad for £500 lol

This is a very spacious and comfortable car. It's a solidly built, decent cruiser with reasonable running costs.

Dealer service is good and reasonably priced. However, there are quality issues with the sunroof and heating system. The heating system will cost £1000 to fix!

KUDOS? Don’t dismiss Omegas because they don't have that Bavarian badge. Silky 2.5 24v V6 pulls like a traction engine from 25 mph in 5th! HANDLING: Put Avon ZZ3s on the rims they’re great. ECONOMY: 34mpg on a long run, 26 mpg town driving Overall 30 MPG STUFF: Xenon headlights, comfy lectcy adjusted and heated seats, more rear leg room than a Jaguar S-Type, huge boot, split folding rear seats, electrically adjusted heated door mirrors, automatically dipping anti glare rear view mirror, real plastic wood effect, leather steering wheel (though I suspect there is some steel in there), leather gear knob, loose small children in the carpet, sink the Titanic in the velour, electric windows all round (except the windscreen and rear window, that would be silly), interior lights that fade out, air bags everywhere... the list goes on. The stereo and 6CD Auto changer sounds good, so spend your dosh on a hi-fi for the house. Climate control is excellent. 24 degrees for my cold-blooded spouse and 19 degrees to keep my brain frosty. How cool is that? Well laid out dash, though the huge clocks in the binnacle can still be seen in Reading as you approach Swindon. Reasonable servicing costs: between £130 and £250. The bad points are the uninspired styling and interior storage. CONCLUSION: These cars are cheap because only the people in the know love them. Suits me!

My car

This is a beautiful, comfortable car to drive. We have the automatic estate version. For comfort and an overall feeling of safety I don't think it could be equalled.

Acceleration is superb, it copes with heavy loads wonderfully, and its extra length and boot space means you can carry 6ft lengths of cupboard, shelving etc without having to tie the boot door down with string. It is a wonderful workhorse.

Sadly we are having to part with it now as older age creeping on means we need a smaller car. We shall miss its style, comfort and safety.
