I have bought this car on a v plate (1999) in tropic orange and i can geniunely say it's fantastic. It is finsihed in a 'topic orange' paint job that looks amazing, and you cant help but just feel better than all of the focus drivers you see, i dont know what it is about the car, it just puts a smile on your face. The 1.6 litre petrol engine is great, it really pulls at the higer revs and is really free revving. Reliability is ok (for a nine year old car) there is one rattle from the cabin which is usually downed out by the stero system that comes with the cd channger is AMAZING! Handling is top notch it seems to stick to the road with never ending limits of grip, it seems to just fly down the country roads at speeds. This car is fantastic. i love it!
I bought this car at 3k and 3 months old back in 02, after owning 2 306 and a 309 before that, it was like getting out of a car you knew was a diesel to one you had to check to make sure. Now I'm about to change at 102,000, and is still running just as sweet. It took until 40k to loosen, it was wow at 3k, but double wow after the 40k. I always stick to 30,40,50mph speed limits (hence no points!) but I don't waste time on the road, and one thing I adore about this car is the take off and G force when you fly out of speed limit zones and leave tailgaiters standing - mega thrill - ha ha ha!! Saying that, I have got to 100mph without realising, and is very difficult to keep down to 70, phew, no speed cameras at the time!
It's a very comfortable car on a long journey, try to get a cruise control - couldn't do without it now - also heated seats, heaven on a cold winter's day. Saying that, I have had to have a new drivers seat as the wiring had burnt through the cloth. It did take a lot of time and effort, but VW eventually gave in and paid for this work.
I have never had to top up the oil - not because I didn't check, just didn't need it - brill for a 100k+ car. It does eat tyres though, one small price for great torque perhaps.
Overall, I'm very happy with this car, and will be very sad to see it go - it's the car I've held on to longest ever!
I own a VW Golf GT Tdi 110bhp and ive had it now for a couple of months and all i can say is that i love it! it handles brilliantly on the road and the fuel consuption on it is amazing even with the high fuel prices, im still getting over 400 miles to a tank round town!! even though its the 110bhp model it still shifts. does make me laugh when you get the little idiot boyracers on the the traffic lights reving the hell out of their little rust buckets and they try race off the lights, just put my foot down and ive leave them behind hahaha, i will be definatly buying another Golf Gt tdi, im looking at getting the mk5 170 bhp gt tdi next, well done VW these cars are BRILLIANT!!
This is my second Golf GTI, i think they are fantastic cars i've never once had to spend out any money on them apart from general tyres services and mot which(touch wood) they have sailed through!! They do enjoy the petrol so not as economical as i would like but i realised that when i went for a GTI 1.8 turbo, i might not have brought it if i had realised petrol was going to go upto 1.10p a litre!!! But no complaints about the car its been amazing which is why i have hung onto it!!
