I've only taken delivery in the last week, so some might say it's a bit early to write my review. However, I have owned a Polo and Bora previously, so knew roughly what to expect.
I am very pleased with the looks of this car - its black metallic paint is already attracting quite a few looks.
My only niggle is that I have to agree with T Mason's review of 30/03/06 that the ride is not brilliant. You really do feel the road, bumps and all.
Other than that, what a good car! The seating position is excellent for driver and passenger. When you stand besides the car you really get a feel of how tall this Golf is. I am 6ft 2in tall with back problems, and getting into the car is a breeze.
Nice one, VW!
just own this car with automatic gearbox over one week. so far happy with this golf plus. one thing i have to tell you that the auto box has the normal 6 speed gearbox plus it can works as tiptronic +/- gear you can select plus there is a sport mode too..... auto windsreen wipers and headlights as standard. whatcar target price for 1.6 fsi se 5dr manual 14,800. this auto golf plus is 15,900. i think this is a good deal.....
To keep a lid on running costs we opted for the SPORT diesel rather than the GT diesel. No regrets as driving it sensibly is helping us to achieve 55mpg and on insurance there is very little difference compared to the 1.4 TDi POLO we traded in. Best to go for light colours as they make the car look bigger and the fixed term maintenance pack which VW offer, the pack covers the costs of service, maintenance and tyres for a particular - this provides piece of mind.
We opted for the Leather/Alcantara interior as we found the materials of the standard interior rather cheap-looking; it has been worth the extra and the comfortable heated seats are a bonus these cold winter mornings.
Performance, braking and economy are excellent; steering, handling and ride comfort are disappointing in comparison with our Focus Mk 1 Zetec. Overall we are pleased with the car and it had to beat a formidable short list to earn its place in our garage.

After having several larger engined prestige cars I wanted a car that was just that: a car. Not a status symbol, not a racing machine, just a…
Bought a 2003 model 2.0 HDi diesel second hand in 2004 and still running it in 2012. 11,000 miles at purchase is now 113,000. Never broken down, but…
