USED Volkswagen Passat Estate (99 - 05)

My car

Very well built car except that all units I have driven in have an annoying knock from the nearside suspension / shockers. This is more evident on rough surfaces. Economical beyond belief, punchy engine that pulls well although standing or roling start needs good clutch control as power comes on very quickly through rev. range. Tends to roll a little in cornering but still holds road well. Instrumentation very clear and steering wheel-mounted controls make life very easy. Alarms for low washer fluid, low fuel, low temperature cause the heart to miss a beat if you are not familiar and do not expect them. Lovely finish but mine has a loose gearlever head that causes a vibration throughout the dashboard and is really evident when power coming on and air is cold. Loads of carrying space, special kiddy seats a huge hit. Great car - but never perfect. I would recommend this car to anyone who wants comfortable, economical and resilient motoring.

I have the automatic version and although I would expect reduced fuel consumpsion 28mph-30mph I feel is unacceptable, this is general mixed driving and I dont have a heavy right foot! Also the engine is very noisy compared to some others I've driven.

The steering has a poor turning circle. Build quality is solid.

Remembering to blip the key fob twice to open ALL doors can be a pain.

The seat base depth could be longer as at 6' 1" I find under thigh support is lacking.

Good build quality very relaible and excellent fuel consumption on mainly motorway driving.

I bought this from brand new (2004 plate) up to present I have had no faults at all.

The ride is very comfotable on all road surfaces. No problems with the dealer either. The servicing costs have been quite easy on the pocket too.
