I bought the new VW Passat 2Ltr Diesel Sport, in January and have had nothing but problems, the Coin tray broke and the Arm rest above the Phone cradle also broke after 10 weeks and has taken 2 months to arrive, The clutch started going at 27,000 miles and needs new clutch plate and flywheel, then the revs stopped at 2800 and they found it was leaking oil into the diesel for some reason the rad brackets need replacing and when fitting the clutch parts they found that the Gear box seal was leaking oil, an oil pump is also on order, well looks like i'm going to look at a japanese car next time!

I have had this car for two months and it has spent two weeks in the garage for constant niggling rattles and squeaks coming from the door seals, dashboard and roof area (of which VW don't have a fix forthe latter). The other issues also remain unresolved.
Overall, the car handles well and is good to drive. The equipment is good - I took the optional steering wheel control and six-CD changer. The DSG gearbox is fantastic.
I had a 2000 Passat estate previously; at the moment, I wish I had kept it due to the cabin noise and the ongoing hassle factor of having to get it repaired. Time will tell.
What a disappointment. After two very good Golf MkVs, I bought a Passat 140 TDI estate.
It has a rotten engine and poor fuel economy (33-35), despite being driven carefully. The engine stalls and feels gutless between 1000-2000 rpm. The exhaust gas recirculation was reprogrammed by mobile technician - it's now even worse.
The long-term prospects are not good. Why did I bother?
I agree with the comments already submitted, I am also experiencing various rattles some from the door pillars where no fix, according to my VW dealer, has as yet been determined as by the manufacturer. So we can all just wait!
I have found a particularly noisy rattle coming from the hi-tec 'glasses holder' near the rear view mirror. I'm going to try blue tack on this one & will of course inform VW if this fix works. One further bit of information you may wish to know before you buy. VW handbook tips & maintainance page 52 states 'oil consumption can be up to 1.0 litre/1000 km. Did you know that before you purchased?
