I own the new VW Polo 1.2 S. I have had VWs all my driving life, ranging from Golfs to Polos. This model is very economical on fuel, insurance and car tax. As for driving at speed, I find that it is just as good as the 1.6 and 1.4 engines I have previously owned. The only gripe is that the cental locking is only activated by keys rather than a key fob.
I own the GT version of this car, bought new in December 2004. It has a six-CD player, 16-inch alloys (and the spare wheel was a 16-inch alloy to my surprise), fog lights, and sports suspension as standard. However, on a £15,000 car I though that rear electric windows, airbag turning off switch, and air-conditioning should also be included.
I have enjoyed this car very much for the last 11 months. It is a great city car, and feels very nippy especially when you put it into second gear. I also do a fair bit of travelling throughout the UK, and it has not let me down.
We actually ordered one of the new Polos.
When we went to collect the car the car was damaged on the grill, the door panels were damaged on the inside and the car had scratches.
We refused the car we were told we could have this repaired. We refused and were then told we could order a new one with a 3-month wait.
I spoke to VW UK Customer service having waitited on the phone for 60mins to be connected. They were not interested in helping me with the car problems. Therefore we got our deposit back and I have to say VW have done themselves no favours with such a poor service to customers.
I have had this car for one week now and am thoroughly pleased with it.
The switchgear is simple to use and practical. The car is fast and the suspension copes well with all road surfaces.
I'm slighly surprised that it did not come with a split-folding rear seat but that is my only gripe so far. Boot space, however, is more than adequate. So far very economical.
Recommended.
