The VW Golf 1.4 TSI 160 GT is the most enjoyable Golf Cabriolet. It’s not cheap, but it has a strong engine, loads of kit and is more fun to drive than the other models in the range.

Buyer's notes

Target Price team says:

Volkswagen now offers two convertibles that are a similar size and price: the VW Golf Cabriolet and the Eos. However, the question of which car is better largely comes down to whether you prefer the speed and convenience of the Golf’s fabric hood – it folds away in just 9.5 seconds and can be operated on the move – or the extra security and refinement that the Eos’s metal roof brings.

Assuming you decide on the Golf, there will be a wide range of engines and three trims to choose from. Our favourite all round is the 1.4 TSI 122 SE, but the 1.4 TSI 160 GT is also a very good bet for those who want more fun. For even more fun, there’s the 208bhp GTI version.

As with all Volkswagens, the Golf Cabriolet comes with a three-year/60,000-mile warranty that covers unlimited mileage for the first two years. You also get RAC roadside assistance in the UK, and European cover for a year.
