Diesel versions of the Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser will be available with a semi-automatic gearbox for the first time.
The Dual Clutch System (DCS) works similarly to the likes of Audi's S Tronic gearbox, using two separate clutches one on the odd-numbered gears, the other on the even. This allows smoother, faster gearchanges, as the next gear is automatically pre-selected.
Available exclusively with the 2.2-liter diesel engine, the system also allows the choice of manual and automatic modes, with the gearchange in the manual mode operated by paddles behind the steering wheel.
Compared to the current manual-gearbox model, the new DCS version has slightly higher emissions and worse fuel economy up to 191g/km and down to 38.7mpg, respectively. However, the biggest difference is in the 0-60mph time, which rises from 9.9 to 11.1 seconds.
In both 4007 and C-Crosser ranges, DCS versions will be available in a choice of trims, but the cheapest 4007 SE and C-Crosser VTR+ are priced at an identical 24,545.
At the same time, there have also been some other minor changes to the ranges: both models have new interior trim; DCS versions of the 4007 have twin tailpipes; while a;; C-Crosser models now have automatic wipers, with Bluetooth connectivity standard on Exclusive versions.
