The Hyundai ix35 has been around for a while now and, as such, has fallen behind its rivals in the SUV segment. What does this mean for savvy motorists? Big discounts.
Having only two powered wheels without the option of all-wheel drive means this ix35 achieves 53.3mpg on average, making it reasonably cheap to run. It has just enough power to make driving on the motorway relaxing, if not lightning quick.
There’s plenty of room inside for all passengers. The floor is almost flat, too, making life even easier for the central rear-seat passenger. There’s also a large and well-shaped loading bay, so there's loads of room for awkward loads.
It should also be a stress-free car to own. Residual values are fairly strong and this is backed up by the reassurance of Hyundai’s five-year warranty. The company was voted one of the most reliable brands in the most recent JD Power survey.
It’s not very refined on the move. The diesel engine emits lots of noise and doesn’t really settle down even when cruising in top gear. There’s also lots of road and wind noise, which means you'll have to turn up the stereo.
Nor does the ix35 ride especially well. Over city streets it gets bounced around by larger bumps. The steering is vague, too, meaning you're not entirely sure about what the car’s going to do on twisty roads.
Inside, the plastics used aren’t as good quality as those in the Nissan Qashqai, and the cabin doesn’t feel as upmarket. The optional sat-nav screen can be tricky to see in direct sunlight.
Should I add any options?
SE trim in this deal has most of the options you’re likely to need, including dual-zone climate control, alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, auto lights and wipers, USB input and heated front and rear seats.
For an additional £935 you can upgrade to SE Nav, which brings sat-nav.
