Euro NCAP noted that, although the passenger compartment remained stable in the front-impact test, protection of the driver's chest was rated as weak. Structures in the dashboard were also deemed to present a risk of injury to the knees and femurs of front-seat passengers.
The i10 scored maximum points for protection of the three-year-old dummy. It also gained points as the front passenger airbag can be deactivated by a switch, allowing a rearward-facing child restraint to be used on the front seat.
However, information provided to the driver regarding the status of the passenger airbag was deemed to be insufficiently clear.
The car was also criticised because no clear warning was given of the dangers of using a rearward-facing child seat in that seat without first disabling the airbag.
The presence of ISOFIX and top-tether anchorages in the rear outboard seats was not clearly marked, which also drew criticism.
The bumper scored maximum points for the protection it offered pedestrians' legs.
However, the front edge of the bonnet offered poor protection, resulting in a loss of points.
