The Japanese version of next year's new Toyota Yaris supermini has been unveiled.

Known as the Vitz in Japan, the new Yaris is much longer than the current model and is expected to arrive in the UK next autumn.

Overall it's 100mm longer, with a 50mm-longer wheelbase, so there should be more space in the cabin and boot. Weight, however, comes down which, combined with an engine stop-start system, should make the Yaris cleaner and more economical.

Toyota is offering savings of up to 1700 on the current model ordered before the end of March, 2011.

Decent to drive, generously equipped and the hybrid version makes a lot of sense as a company car. It's just a shame the Toyota C-HR isn’t cheaper to buy and bigger in the back.
