New Volkswagen Taigo vs Ford Puma: verdict

In a world of boxy small SUVs, the voluptuous new Volkswagen Taigo certainly stands out. But it will take a lot more than good looks to beat the class-leading Ford Puma...

New Volkswagen Taigo vs Ford Puma rears

Our verdict

It’s an extremely close call between these two excellent small SUVs, each of which has its own specific talents. The Puma, as ever, majors on driving fun and boot flexibility, while the Taigo focuses more on rear seat space and ride comfort. Your personal priorities could (and should) sway you in either direction, safe in the knowledge that you won’t be disappointed either way.

However, the Puma shines that bit brighter than the Taigo. It offers enough space and practicality for most families (especially those with younger children), and the way it drives will genuinely have you grinning, without causing your passengers to grimace. Overall, it (just) does enough to hold onto its crown.
