Audi A3 Saloon 35 TDI Sport 4dr S Tronic Review

Section: Version review

The model
Read full reviewThe Audi A3 Saloon is tidy in the bends, comfortable and well equipped, making it a very competitive option against its closest rivals, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe and Mercedes A-Class Saloon. However, the A4 is worth the extra if you can afford it, because it’s quieter and has a classier and more practical interior. Likewise, the BMW 3 Series betters the A3 in those areas, and it's also more enjoyable to drive.
The trim
See full equipmentThe entry-level Sport trim is the one we'd opt for, which has pretty much all you will need. You get 17in alloy wheels, LED headlights, rear parking sensors, cruise control, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, power-folding door mirrors, automatic lights and wipers, dual-zone climate control and leather upholstery. Plus it comes with a 10.1in touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. We would add the optional driver's seat lumbar adjustment, though.
The engine
See full engine specsThe 35 TDI diesel engine is noticeably stronger than the 30 TDI, proving particularly relaxing on motorway runs and it's very refined for a diesel. It's also very economical, but isn't RDE2 emissions compliant, so company car drivers will have to pay a 4% surcharge.
