The model
Read full Audi A3 Saloon reviewThe A3 Saloon is tidy in bends, comfortable and well equipped, making it a very competitive option against its closest rivals. However, an Audi A4 or BMW 3 Series is worth the extra if you can afford it.
The trim
See full equipmentDon’t be put off by the fact that Sport is the entry-level trim, because we think it actually gives the best balance of cost and equipment. It comes with plenty of toys, including 17in alloy wheels, power-folding mirrors, rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit and a 10.1in touchscreen infotainment system with DAB radio, Bluetooth, built-in sat-nav and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring.
The engine
See full engine specsIf you want your A3 Saloon to drink from the black pump, this 148bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine is your only option. It’s a strong engine with plenty of torque, meaning that it pulls hard through the rev range and covers the 0-62mph sprint at around the same pace as the 35 TFSI petrol. Of course, the main draw will be that its official efficiency figures promise around 63mpg.
