Trim:

Sport

It might be the entry-level trim, but Sport still gets plenty of kit. This includes 17in alloys, a 7.0in infotainment system with DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity and sat-nav, a colour information screen between the rev counter and speedo, front sports seats, a well-insulated ‘acoustic’ hood, dual-zone climate control and a three-spoke leather steering wheel. Our favourite specification.

The 2.0-litre petrol has lots of power and torque; in fact, more than enough to make the A3 Cabriolet feel hot hatch fast. It’s not much more usable in the real world than the 1.5, though, and it’s more expensive to buy and run. It’s available with Audi’s all-wheel-drive quattro system but only with an automatic gearbox.
