Review

The Audi A5 Sportback blends coupé-like styling with decent practicality. If you want something that's efficient to run, comfortable and refined, with a beautifully executed interior, it's one of the best coupés for the cash. It also handles well, but if you prefer thrilling and playful rear-wheel-drive dynamics, we'd opt for the excellent BMW 4 Series instead.

Our favourite trim comes with 18in alloy wheels, softer and more comfortable suspension, LED headlights, leather trim, heated from seats, adjustable lumbar support, three-zone climate control, a powered tailgate, ambient interior lighting, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, cruise control, wireless phone charging, an eight-speaker stereo, Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto, sat-nav, a 10.1in infotainment screen and four USB ports.

The 148bhp 35 TFSI (0-62mph in 9.1sec) needs to be worked fairly hard to build speed in a hurry but officially it is capable of averaging nearly 45mpg. We'd go for the 40 TFSI is you want a petrol, though.
