IF YOUR ESTATE buying decision isn’t just about carrying the maximum amount of luggage for the lowest price, then the E-Class is an altogether classier approach to load lugging. Mercedes has a rich history of brilliant estates, and the latest E-Class’s vast, flexible boot, cushy ride and quiet interior make it one of the greats.
Mercedes’ four-cylinder 220 d diesel engine doesn’t lose too much in terms of smoothness and performance compared with the larger and more powerful six-cylinder 350 d, so it’s our pick of the range. It has more than enough pull from low revs to haul five people and their luggage, plus far better CO2 emissions and fuel economy.
There are just two trim choices and the cheaper option, SE, is the one to go for, because all E-Class Estates comes very well equipped as standard: 17in alloy wheels, AEB, LED headlights and a 8.4in infotainment screen are included. You also get a powered tailgate for easier boot access and split-folding rear seats that leave a flat floor once folded (using buttons in the boot).
All in all, the E-Class Estate is one of the most complete estate cars on sale today.Read full review Buy this car
