In the ultra-competitive arena of the premium family car, the 1 Series is right up there, but it's not the best (that's the Audi A3). M Sport adds 18in alloy wheels, more distinctive bumpers, stiffer M Sport suspension (which offers the best ride and handling balance), and a few more luxuries, such as power-folding door mirrors, heated front seats and leather trim. So if you are buying a 1 Series because for its premium or sportier flavour, M Sport makes the most sense.
