The BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer has frugal engines, but there are far more spacious MPVs for the money

Luxury trim also gets 17in alloy wheels, but it has a different set of visual upgrades inside and out to Sport models, as well as leather seats. Again, we’d save the cash and stick to entry-level SE trim.

An extra cylinder over the 216d, with more power and torque as a result. The premium is relatively small so we'd recommend the 218d if you're likely to carry a few people regularly. Even so, company car drivers may be tempted by the lower CO2 emissions of the smaller diesel.
