The BMW 5 Series Touring is quiet, smooth, classy, comfortable and well equipped. It’s also very practical, although it can't quite match the enormous boot that you get with a Mercedes E-Class Estate.get the best price
Trim: M Sport
Hugely popular thanks to its sportier looks – inside and out – and bigger alloy wheels. However, you also get stiffer suspension that does nothing for ride comfort. SE trim is better value and is where our money would go.
This may be the entry point to the 5 Series range, but with mild-hybrid tech it has the best balance of performance (0-62mph takes 7.5sec) and running costs (114 g/km CO2 and 53.3mpg). It's also pretty refined and comes with BMW's excellent automatic gearbox as standard. Four-wheel drive is an optional extra.
