The model
Read full reviewThe C5 Aircross is a great-value large SUV that majors on comfort and refinement, but also offers flexible and frugal engines, versatile seating, a big boot and a decent amount of kit. Don't buy it if you want a plush interior, agile handling or seven seats, though, because its bigger sibling, the Peugeot 5008, and the Kia Sorento do those things rather better.
The trim
See full equipmentRange-topping C-Series Edition gives you everything you could ever need. That’s because it gets all the equipment of the other trim levels and adds 19in alloy wheels, a glass panoramic roof, a hands-free tailgate, an anodized bronze style pack and Citroën’s Safety Plus pack with highway driver assist. Still, it pushes the price up to the level of some of the C5 Aircross’s more accomplished rivals, so we’d avoid it.
The engine
See full engine specsCombining a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a battery and an electric motor, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) engine is the most potent engine in the range. In total, you have 222bhp to play with and an instant response to your accelerator inputs, thanks to the electric motor. Better still, the PHEV will travel on electricity alone for up to 38 miles, lowering emissions and the amount of times you need to visit the pumps.
