The Formentor is slightly more expensive and a bit less practical than the Seat Ateca it's based on. In exchange, it offers sharp coupé SUV looks and a smarter interior. It'll still seat four tall adults and has a decent boot, so it's not impractical, it handles well and, if you stick with our favourite 1.5 TSI V1 version, it's well priced and well equipped.

Step up from V1 to V2 trim, and the wheels grow from 18in to 19in, while other additional kit includes front parking sensors, a rear-view camera, nappa leather upholstery and front sports seats that are electrically operated and heated.

The 2.0 TSI 190 puts 187bhp at the mercy of your right foot and will sprint from 0-62mph in just 7.1sec. That means you don’t have to work it hard and it’s plenty fast enough for almost any situation you throw at it, effortlessly reaching motorway speeds. The TSI 190 also gets four-wheel drive as standard, giving you extra confidence in bad weather or when you deploy the power.
