The Formentor is slightly more expensive and a bit less practical than the Seat Ateca it's based on. In exchange, it offers sharp coupé SUV looks and a smarter interior. It'll still seat four tall adults and has a decent boot, so it's not impractical, it handles well and, if you stick with our favourite 1.5 TSI V1 version, it's well priced and well equipped.

VZ2 trim is available only with the more powerful engines. Over the VZ1 trim, it adds nappa leather seats, electrically operated and heated front seats, a leather-wrapped dashboard and a heated steering wheel.

This 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol produces 242bhp, will hit 0-62mph in 6.8sec and will officially average around 37mpg. It doesn't come with four-wheel drive, though, like the less powerful TSI 190 or range-topping TSI 310.
