Review

Often the verdict for a car costing this little would be ‘cheap but not great’. Not here, though, because the Dacia Sandero is a fine small car to spend time in. For practicality, it’s actually one of the best in the class. The top level Comfort trim with either the TCe 90 or TCe 100 Bi-Fuel engine is a great all-round package for very little outlay. Only a disappointing Euro NCAP safety score lets the side down.

This is the most expensive trim but it’s still incredibly cheap, and you get a lot of kit. It includes (over and above Essential trim) electric rear windows, heated and electronically-adjustable wing mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, an 8.0in infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone mirroring and keyless entry.

This naturally aspirated 1.0-litre has just 64bhp. Even without driving it (we’ll let you know when we have) we are pretty confident it’ll be slow (0-62mph takes a pedestrian 16.7sec) and worth avoiding. Officially it offers the same economy and emissions as the more expensive TCe 90.
