The DS 4 has a generally comfortable ride and good fuel economy, as well as a plush, stylish interior, but it ultimately fails to stand out. Rivals including the Skoda Karoq are even comfier and much more spacious inside. If you do decide to buy a DS 4, we’d suggest choosing the entry-level Pallas trim and the mild-hybrid engine.
The trim
Range-topping Étoile adds plenty of Alcantara to the interior, electrically adjustable front seats, LED headlights and different 19in wheels.
The engine
This diesel engine is the cheapest option and feels stronger at low revs than the entry-level petrol, despite having a similar power output (129bhp). It’s one to consider if you do a lot of motorway driving.
