The model
Read full reviewThe Fiat 500X has an attractive interior and many will be sold by the styling alone. There are, however, plenty of other small SUVs in the same price bracket that are more practical, better to drive and offer a higher level of safety equipment and crash protection.
The trim
See full equipmentIf you can, we’d recommend paying a little extra and upgrading to Cross trim. That’s because it gives you the option of adding automatic emergency braking (AEB) and you get more standard kit, including 17in alloy wheels, a reversing camera, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, LED daytime running lights, automatic dual-zone climate control and built-in sat-nav. If you want your 500X with the hybrid engine, this will be your entry point and you’ll get AEB as standard.
The engine
See full engine specsThis engine mixes a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system for added fuel efficiency and lowered CO2 emissions. In total it gives you 128bhp to play with and has enough oomph to sprint from 0-62mph in 9.4sec. That’s plenty when it comes to pulling away quickly at a junction, but it’s let down by the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which can be slow to react when you’re on the move.
