Superb to drive, pleasant to sit in and well equipped. The Fiesta is a fine small car, but it can prove quite pricey in higher trims and the Volkswagen Polo just has the edge for ride comfort, safety and rear-seat space.

Unlike the other engines in the Fiesta range, this 74bhp entry-level engine doesn’t come with a turbocharger. As a result, it feels quite gutless when you put your foot down on a fast road or to overtake. If you can, we’d suggest spending a little more to upgrade to one of the Ecoboost engines.
