The Ford Focus stands out as one of the best driver’s cars in the class ¬– its handling truly entertains if you go for our favourite ST-Line Edition trim. The sharp dynamics is complemented by its decent ride, quiet cruising manners and lots of passenger space. The iffy interior quality and slightly lacklustre performance are the main areas that mark it down.get the best price

Zetec trim is the entry point and comes very well kitted out. That includes an 8.0in infotainment system with wireless phone charging, sat-nav, a DAB radio, Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto. You also get front and rear parking sensors, LED headlights for dipped beams, driver's seat lumbar adjustment, 16in alloy wheels, power-folding door mirrors, air-con, cruise control, auto lights and a heated windscreen. It's well worth considering, but ST-Line Edition is our favourite.

The 1.0 Ecoboost 125 now comes with mild hybrid technology to improve both performance and efficiency. We're yet to try it in the Focus, but our experience with it in the Ford Puma was very positive, so we'd be surprised if it isn't the pick of the Focus range, too.
