Review

The Ford Focus stands out as one of the best driver’s cars in the class, with truly entertaining handling if you go for our favourite ST-Line Edition trim. Its sharp dynamics are complemented by the decent ride, quiet cruising manners and lots of passenger space. The iffy interior quality and slightly lacklustre performance are the main areas that mark it down.

On top of Active Edition, this adds 18in alloys, digital dials, part-leather trim, full LED headlights, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats and dual-zone climate control.

If you regularly carry lots of people or simply want something quicker than the Ecoboost 125, there's this 153bhp 1.0 Ecoboost Hybrid 155 and, with 0-62mph in 9.2sec, it should be frisky enough for you. It's also pretty efficient, officially averaging just over 55mpg and emitting 118g/km of CO2.
