The model
Read full reviewThe Ford Focus stands out as one of the best driver’s cars in the class, with truly entertaining handling if you go for our favourite ST-Line Edition trim. Its sharp dynamics are complemented by the decent ride, quiet cruising manners and lots of passenger space. The iffy interior quality and slightly lacklustre performance are the main areas that mark it down.

See full equipmentST-Line Edition is our favourite, mainly for how it drives with the sportier suspension, but also because you get 17in alloy wheels, LED front foglights, keyless start and entry, auto wipers, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and privacy glass. It also includes more aggressive styling inside and out.
The engine
See full engine specsIf you're a diesel fan, the 118bhp 1.5L Ecoblue 120 represents the sweet spot of the diesel range, providing a good spread of shove once you get past its initial low-end turbo lag and hitting 0-62mph in a respectable 10.0sec flat. Officially it'll average up to 67.3mpg, too, and with 111g/km of CO2 and RDE2 compliance, it's not a bad choice for high-mileage company car drivers. Can sound a bit grumbly though.
