The model
Read full reviewThe Ford Mustang is a unique proposition. It’s not only cheaper than its closest rivals, but it’s also better equipped and more powerful (especially in V8 form). However, its running costs aren't exactly parsimonious and it doesn’t handle as sharply as an Audi TT or A5. So, if your heart is set on this piece of Americana, just make sure you’re prepared for the compromises that you’ll have to make when it comes to running one.

See full equipmentAside from the massive V8 under the bonnet, GT models get different 19in wheels, a switchable exhaust system, six-piston Brembo brakes, a different grille and GT badging.
The engine
See full engine specsIt may be more expensive to buy and run, but it’s worth digging deep for this sumptuous slice of American pie. The 444bhp engine needs working hard to deliver the goods, but take it up to 7000rpm and you’ll be smitten. Also found under the bonnet of the limited-edition Bullitt variant, but with an even meatier 453bhp.
