With its agile cornering and surprisingly nippy performance, the Ford Puma will put a bigger smile on your face than any other small SUV. But it’s a car you can buy with your sensible hat on, too, thanks to its low CO2 emissions, excellent real-world fuel economy, a clever boot and attractive monthly PCP costs.

Trim: ST-Line X

Going for range-topping ST-Line X gets you climate control, but also bigger 18in alloys for an even sportier look, along with tinted windows, part-leather seats and a great-sounding B&O stereo.

Engine: 1.0 EcoBoost Hybrid mHEV 155

The more powerful of two engines available in the Puma but the only one we’ve tried. In our tests, 0-60mph took just 8.5sec, which is as fast as some far pricier small SUVs, such as the Audi Q2 35 TFSI.
