The Ioniq 5 combines standout looks with a good range, peaceful cruising manners and a spacious and practical interior. The best value is represented at the bottom of the range in the form of the rear-wheel drive model with the larger battery (RWD 228PS) in Premium trim. In this specification it undercuts the closely related Genesis GV60 and Kia EV6.

The top-spec brings leather upholstery, privacy glass, some chrome door garnish, fully electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a Bose premium sound system and a head-up display. It also adds 20in alloys if you go for the larger battery option.

This pricier dual-motor version has a second electric motor driving the front wheels, boosting power to 321bhp and giving acceleration that’s a match for the Tesla Model Y Long Range. It's not cheap, though, and range is slightly worse than in the RWD versions.
