The Jeep Renegade offers distinctive styling and decent practicality, but most rivals make it feel agricultural

This is the luxury version with 18in alloys, LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, leather seats that are both electrically adjustable and heated. You also get a heated steering wheel.

The plug-in hybrid 4xe model and its 0-62mph time of 7.5sec seems good on paper, but it never feels quick. It’s fine running on electricity around town, but the engine is raucous when you try to get up to motorway speeds.
