The Kia Picanto is one of the very best city cars, with a smart interior, tidy handling and decent practicality

Trim: 2

This trim has more of what you might expect on a city car these days. It adds 14in alloy wheels, electrically adjustable door mirrors, air-con, Bluetooth, electric windows all round, a leather trimmed steering wheel and gearknob, as well as driver’s seat-height adjustment.

Engine: 1.0

Three-cylinder petrol is the one to go for if you’re buying through work because it benefits from the lowest CO2 emissions. However, it has to be worked very hard indeed, so in all other cases we’d go for the 1.25.
