Review

The Kia Picanto is a fine small car, with a smart interior, tidy handling and, if you pick the 1.25 MPi 83 engine, decent performance and economy. A Hyundai i10 is a bit more polished in terms of ride and refinement, though.

get the best price

It's based on '2' trim, so GT-Line misses out on some of the upgrades that our favoured '3' trim comes with. Instead, it gets sportier styling and 16in wheels on the outside. Automatic emergency braking is also standard, along with power-folding door mirrors and privacy glass.

The best compromise between power and price. It's peppy, but not only is it much more comfortable with motorway work than the entry-level 1.0-litre, it’s smoother, too. We managed just under 40mpg on mixed roads in our test. It's the engine we recommend.
