The Kia XCeed tries to combine hatchback and SUV qualities, but doesn't quite pull it off, and the regular Ceed is ultimately a better buy. The rival Seat Leon is roomier and better to drive, while the Skoda Karoq and other SUVs are available for similar money while bringing real practicality advantages.

The 3 trim gets you 18in alloys, keyless entry and go, and additional luxuries such as power lumbar adjustment, dual-zone climate control, and heated front seats and steering wheel.
The engineSee full engine specs
On balance, this engine gets the cost/performance balance right, and is our preferred choice. The 0-60mph time of 9.0sec is hardly the best in the class, though.
