The model
Read full reviewThe Land Rover Defender is a rugged SUV that fuses fantastic off-road ability, especially with the optional locking rear differential, with accomplished on-road manners. If that's the blend of abilities you're after, it's effectively in a class of one. But the Jeep Wrangler is even better in the rough stuff, while premium SUVs, including the Audi Q5 and Q7, are more comfortable. With its bigger boot, the 110 will make the most sense for many, but the 90 is usefully more compact and the better off-roader.
get the best priceThe trim
See full equipmentThis luxurious trim gets an opening canvas roof if you opt for a 90, or a sliding panoramic roof if you go for a 110. You also get diamond-turned alloy wheels, full leather seats with leather inserts on the dash on doors, the front seats are cooled and have 14-way electric adjustment plus you get the driver assist pack which bundles in adaptive cruise control amongst other features. It’s not cheap, though.
The engine
See full engine specsAlthough we’re yet to sample this mid-range six-cylinder diesel, the less powerful four-cylinder D240 that it replaces was smooth and had more than ample power. Hopefully the new engine will prove even more impressive.
