Review

The Land Rover Discovery is hugely capable and very desirable, and equally at home both on road and off it. Go for one of the diesel engines and S trim to keep the price down. If you have a bigger budget than that, the Audi Q7 and BMW X7 are better buys

get the best price

No Discovery is poorly equipped; even entry-level S trim gives you leather seats, two-zone climate control, keyless entry, 20in wheels, an 11.4in infotainment system with nav and smartphone mirroring, LED headlights and a 360 degree camera to back up front and rear parking sensors. We’d argue it’s all you really need.

We heartily recommend the refined 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel D300. Its plentiful low-down punch makes it an ideal fit for a hefty SUV with a decent turn of pace when needed. It’ll even top 30mpg when driven carefully.
