Some rivals are faster and more fun to drive, but few are as comfortable or refined as the Range Rover Sport. We’d advise looking at a D300 diesel unless the P400e works for your lifestyle or bank balance. Stick to the lower trim levels, too, as costs soon shoot up.

Essentially an appearance pack that brings flashy 21in wheels, privacy glass, front fog lights to the outside. You do get an upgraded stereo and heated steering wheel, although we’d still stick to HSE.

The plug-in hybrid P400e combines a 296bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine with a 114bhp electric motor to give a healthy blast of pace when you put your foot down. 0-62mph takes just 7.3sec - not quite Volvo XC90 T8 fast but certainly not bad - and there’s an electric-only range of around 20 miles in the real world. It’s a tempting choice for company car users thanks to low emissions, but a BMW X5 45e will cost you even less in BIK payments.
